Commercial HVAC Questions

Helpful answers for business owners, property managers, schools, and commercial facilities.

Should I Get a Commercial Maintenance Plan?

Yes. A maintenance plan can help extend the life of your equipment, reduce the risk of critical breakdowns, and may be required under certain lease agreements.

Should I Choose Semiannual or Quarterly Maintenance?

We often recommend beginning with a semiannual plan and increasing service frequency as needed. Foot traffic, pets, outdoor exposure, and the type of business all matter. An office may require fewer visits than a woodworking or industrial space.

Why Is My Commercial A/C Not Reaching the Desired Temperature?

There are many possible causes, including airflow restrictions, equipment condition, thermostat issues, refrigerant problems, or system sizing. A professional diagnostic visit is the best way to determine the cause.

Why Is My Commercial A/C Not Blowing Cold Air?

Possible causes include:

  • A clogged or blocked outdoor coil

  • A blocked indoor air-handler coil

  • Dirty or clogged filters

  • Incorrect thermostat settings

  • Low or leaking refrigerant

Why Won't My Commercial A/C Unit Turn On?

Possible causes include:

  • The thermostat is off or has dead batteries

  • The condenser unit is unplugged

  • The circuit breaker has tripped

  • The air filter is clogged

  • The drain line is blocked

  • The unit has a motor or electrical failure

How Much Does A New Commercial HVAC Unit Cost?

Commercial HVAC systems may range from approximately $10,000 to $60,000 or more, depending on equipment size, brand, building needs, and installation requirements. Canyon Cooling can provide a detailed quote after a site visit.

Residential HVAC Questions

Straightforward answers for homeowners dealing with comfort, airflow, maintenance, and replacement questions.

How Often Should I Change My Air Filter?

A common recommendation is every three months. Homes with pets, allergies, heavy dust, or frequent system use may need filter changes more often.

Why Is Water Dripping From The Drain Line On the Side of My Home?

Most air-conditioning systems have a primary and secondary drain line. If water is coming from the secondary line, the primary drain may be clogged or not draining correctly. Contact an HVAC provider promptly to inspect the system.

Which Air Filter Should I Use?

Every filter has a MERV rating, which measures how well it captures airborne particles. MERV 8 is commonly used in residential systems. Some units can handle a higher rating, but a filter that is too restrictive can reduce airflow. Many systems should not use a filter above MERV 11 unless the equipment is designed for it.

How Much Does A New Residential A/C Unit Cost in Arizona?

Residential systems may range from approximately $7,000 to $23,000, depending on unit size, efficiency, brand, and installation requirements. A common residential replacement may fall near $9,000 to $11,000, but an on-site evaluation is needed for an accurate quote.

What Is the Ideal Thermostat Setting During Summer?

The best setting depends on your HVAC system, insulation, heat load, humidity, filter condition, coil cleanliness, and energy budget. Canyon Cooling commonly recommends approximately 75–78°F for comfort and manageable system runtime.

Why Won't One Room In My Home Cool Down?

Uneven cooling may be caused by airflow restrictions, ductwork issues, insulation, sun exposure, room location, or system performance. An HVAC technician can inspect the airflow, ductwork, and equipment operation to identify the cause.
